mini-boss in a foreign land: alternate careers, fortune cookies and menudo


i'm pretty stressed-out at work. i've always hated deploying applications, and i'm doing that here everyday -- deploying applications and hating it. i'm no good at analyzing requirements and i'm doing a lot of that here too -- analyzing requirements and being no good at it. makes me think i might be at the wrong place *sigh*

we ate at a chinese buffet some weeks ago, and it was the first time i broke a fortune cookie. funny that mine read, "you are soon going to change your present line of work." *giggle*

the first-boss-i've-ever-had-in-my-entire-life was here in our unit the other night, because she was supposed to cook menudo for our baon (our unit is the designated kitchen because my roommate and i don't cook :P ) i asked her if i could cook the menudo, and she let me :) of course, she was there to guide me regarding what to put in first, what to do next, etc. so now, i theoretically know how to cook four more meals: meatballs with sweet and sour sauce, pancit, adobo and menudo. i just need to learn one more meal, and i would have fulfilled one of my plans for the year . :) i was joking her that maybe i should change jobs and be a cook (or maybe be a house help) *grin* the menudo was edible, by the way. ;)

Here's a simple recipe for sinigang:

1. Sautee crushed garlic and onion (a small one will do) on very little oil (canola is preferred).

2. Add meat and water (depends on how much sour soup you want). Cover and boil.

3. Add tamarind or kamias. You may add the sinigang mix if you are not that choosy. :) Add chilli (the long green kind - you know what it looks like)

4. Simmer until meat is tender.

5. Add fish soy to taste.

6. Add vegetables.

That is it! :D

one more to learn? how about ice monggo? 1. boil monggo 2. mix with sugar 3. add condensada 4. balot sa plastic 5. lagay sa freezer --yipee meron ka nang dessert! hehe

hehe di kasama ang dessert ;) "medyo" nagluto ako ng monggo dito nung isang araw ("medyo" kasi di ako yung naghiwa ng ingredients and nagtimpla ng patis). medyo matamis kasi gumamit kami ng shrimp.
